A Letter from the Artistic Director

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to perform with the Blue Heron Charitable Orchestra (BHCO).

As musicians, we all know that what matters most is more than the notes on the page—it is the meaning behind them, the shared experience on stage, and the connections we carry forward. Many of us, at some point, have dreamt of using music to do more: to heal, to help, to change the world, even to save lives. At BHCO, that dream becomes reality. Every concert turns artistry into impact, supporting children in need through partners such as Kindernothilfe Österreich, proving that the world can be better because of the music we make together.

We are building something new in Vienna: a concert series where artistic excellence and servant leadership go hand in hand. Our performances are not only opportunities to perform great repertoire—from Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite to the masterpieces of Beethoven and Verdi—but occasions where music becomes a force for good.

As your colleague, I know the commitment it takes to join an orchestra. At BHCO, we do our best to honor that commitment. We not only support our musicians but empower them—creating experiences and connections that strengthen your future work and networks.

We unite patrons, partners, musicians, and audiences—aligned by one truth: music inspires, gives hope, and makes a difference. In this work, it truly takes a village!

Our programs bring together luminous repertoire and meaningful impact. We aim to create concerts you’ll be proud to play — and proud to share — experiences that remind audiences why classical music matters now.

If this vision resonates — excellence with empathy, performance with purpose — I would be honored to hear from you.

With warm regards from Vienna,

Ying Xu
